In the old Viking calendar the Women's day is the first day of the month Góa. It is the Sunday in the 18th week of winter between 18th and 24th of February.
That day, farmers and husbands commemorated their housewife's by celebrating the month Góa, which brings with it growing light and springtime. The old months of the Viking calendar were divided into winter and summer:
Winter: gormánuður, ýlir, mörsugur, þorri, góa, einmánuður
Summer: harpa, skerpla, sólmánuður, heyannir, tvímánuður, haustmánuður
