Seven days of fun in Iceland

Day one—The Reykjanes Peninsula (August 1st)

10:45 a.m. Pick up from Keflavik KEF Airport.
The Bridge Between Continents. Man-made tourist attraction, but still a great way to see how the land is forming.
Gunnuhver, a ghost hot spring!
Brimketill!
Lunch at Bryggjan restaurant in Grindavík. The langostine soup is not to be missed!
Seltún, a colorful geothermal area.
View over Kleifarvatn Lake.
2:50 p.m. Relax in the Sky Lagoon for a couple of hours.
Drop off at Hotel Von in Reykjavik.

Day two—The Golden Circle (August 2nd)

9:00 a.m. (10:45) Pick up from your hotel in Reykjavik.
Mosfellsbakari, the best bakery in Iceland, was unfortunately closed!
Drive the scenic road by Hafravatn, Nesjavallaleið, and Grafningur.
Þingvellir, the Fields of Parliament, was founded in 930 AD at the boundaries of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. We taste the pure water from a secret spring.
Brúarfoss, the blue waterfall.
Geysir spring area, with the erupting geyser Strokkur.
Gullfoss waterfall is one of Iceland's most iconic tourist attractions.
Drive by Brúarhlöð, where the massive river runs through a narrow ravine.
We stay and dine the first night at Landhótel in the south.

Day three—The South Coast towards the east and Vatnajökull National Park (August 3rd)

Leaving after breakfast at 8:45 a.m.
Faxi Bakery.
Skógarfoss, a majestic waterfall with the 430 steps for our active guests
Dyrhólaey, the Door Hill drive on the island, has an amazing view of the south coast
Black crust pizza in Vík.
Dverghamrar, the dwarf cliffs of basalt columns.
Jökulsárlón, called the Glacier Lagoon, with its majestic icebergs.
Fellsfjara, called the diamond beach, where the icebergs have washed ashore on the black-sand beach.
5:30 p.m. Zodiac tour on Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon.
Staying and dining at Adventure Hotel Hof.

Day four—South coast towards west (August 4th)

Leaving after breakfast at 9:00 a.m.
Short hike to Svínafellsjökull outlet glacier.
Fossálar, small waterfalls.
Hamrafoss waterfall, brontosaurus, and sn Indian elephant.
Fjaðrárgljúfur gorge.
Late lunch at restaurant Suður Vík.
Vík town, church, and cemetery for the view over the area.
Reynisfjara's basalt column beach reminds us to tell you about the seals' cave.
Seljalandsfoss is a 200-foot-tall waterfall you can walk behind.
We check in at Hótel Laugarvatn and go out for dinner at Lindin Restaurant.

Day five—Borgarfjörður (August 5th)

Leaving after breakfast at 10:00 a.m.
We drive the scenic road Uxahryggir or Kaldidalur if passable towards Borgarfjörður.
Hraunfossar and Barnafoss are unique waterfalls. (+Víðgemlir)
Snorrastofa museum about the writer Snorri Sturluson (1181-1241)
Deildartunguhver is the largest hot spring in Europe.
Hike the Eldborg crater.
We stay at Fosshótel Stykkishólmur two nights. Dine at Narfeyrarstofa the first evening.

Day six—Snæfellsnes Peninsula (August 6th)

We start our rainy day at 9:30 a.m. after breakfast.
A short hike up to Súgandisey Lighthouse for the view over the bay and the town.
The shark museum in Bjarnarhöfn is a not-to-miss place on the peninsula.
The picturesque Mt. Kirkjufell and Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall.
At the brown sand beach at Skarðsvík we see the contrasts to the black lava rock.
Pebble Beach at Dritvík and Djúpalónssandur.
At Arnarstapi we see the monument of the big troll Bárður Snæfellsás and walk along the ocean to see all the rock formations, including Gatklettur and Músagjá.
Ölkelda is a fountain of naturally carbonated water.
Back to Fosshótel Stykkishólmur for dinner and stay.

Day seven—Borgarnes and Hvalfjörður

The windy day starts at 9:30 after breakfast.
Selvallafoss waterfall.
Gerðuberg is a great wall of basalt columns.
Rauðamelskirkja church.
Borgarnes is the town of the crazy Viking Egill Skallagrímsson.
The two exhibitions at Landnámssetrið museum. One is about Egill, and the other one is about the settlement in Iceland.
Lunch at Landnámssetrið.
The Viking grave in the Skallagrímsgarður botanical garden.
We drive by the scenic Hvalfjörður Bay (whale bay) back to Reykjavík to Hótel Borg.
